Background

Manuel  J. Montesclaros was born in Cebu City. He went through elementary education in Medellin, Cebu. He finished his secondary education in the University of San Carlos School for Boys in Cebu City under the tutelage of the Society of the Divine Word. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the same University. He entered the Society of Jesus on May 30, 1986 and pronounced his First Vows on November 26, 1988. He obtained the degree of Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (S.T.B) in 1996. He was ordained priest on April 20, 1996 and did his Tertianship from September 2005 to March 2006. On October 28, 2008, he pronounced his Final Vows.

Fr. Manol was Director of Arvisu House Jesuit Pre-novitiate from 1993-1995, Director San Jose College Seminary, Ateneo de Manila University 1996-1997, and Assistant to the Parish Priest of San Jose Manggagawa Parish in Marikina City. He did his Licentiate in Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome 1997-2001. He was a Founding Member of Catholic Biblical Association of the Philippines 1999 and continues to be active until present time. He became Vice-Superior of Dagani House of Jesuit Philosophers and full-time member of the faculty of Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University during the School Year 2004-2005. He was visiting Professor of the Pentateuch in St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines during the First Semester of School Year 1999, 2001-2004 and visiting Professor of Biblical Greek, Pentateuch, Synoptic Gospels of Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University during the First Semester of School Year 2000-2001. He was Professor of Sacred Scriptures and Director of Human and Spiritual Formation of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, Cagayan de Oro City from 2005-2013. He gives spiritual direction and retreats (directed, weekend and 8-day retreats)  to seminarians, priests, religious and lay.
