This course pursues basic and recurring themes in the social teachings of the Church from Rerum Novarum of Pope Leo XIII of the 19th century to Pope John Paul II at the beginning of the Third Millenium. This introductory course on social analysis is designed especially for those who are committed to integrate their faith conviction with their struggle for social transformation. It starts with a series of exercises in basic field observation, followed by an interactive survey of existing socio-political paradigms, each of which will be explained not just by academic researchers but by activist practitioners. It is within this context that the students are invited to an appreciation of the core principles of the Church Social Teachings.
