This course in the field of Christology delves into two major themes in Catholic Systematic Theology: Soteriology, which focuses on Jesus saving work, and Mariology, which is a theological reflection on the mystery of Mary within the context of the salvific action of Christ in history. The course treats the scriptural roots of the Churchs teachings on salvation and the role of Mary in it, patristic developments and dogmatic expressions in Christian tradition, and particular manifestations of Marian devotion in the local churches of Asia. A conscious effort is made to relate the class discussions to Asian, interreligious and pastoral concerns.
