Theology of the New Testament

Joining the worlds of biblical scholarship and constructive theology, a theology of the New Testament studies the major theological themes of the New Testament as a whole, while preserving the integrity of individual writings. It attends to the dynamics of a newly developing tradition out of the soil of the culture and sacred writings of Israel. Based on a careful reading of both testaments, students will conduct research on theological themes, like Salvation, Christology, Ecclesiology, Eschatology, and relevant Christian ethical precepts and practices. This course would be useful to students preparing for dogmatic oral comprehensive exams, in providing biblical grounding and context for the theses in Christian doctrine covered in the comprehensives.
