"The Evangelizing Power of the Holy Spirit in the Church's New Evangelization"

Hongyan Liu (China)

Master of Arts major in Theological Studies with a field of specialization in Systematic Theology.
Adviser: Joaquin Yap, S.W., D.Phil.

Abstract:

This study is theological and pastoral in its content. It focuses mainly on the theological meaning of the mission of the Holy Spirit and the mission of the Catholic Church in the new evangelization. The exploration is based on recent papal teachings that call the Church to evangelize in the power of the Holy Spirit, who is the “principal agent of evangelization” (RM 21, EN 75), as well as on a few select writings of Yves Congar on the mission of the Holy Spirit. The pastoral dimension, though integral to this thesis, is discussed briefly. The theological insights then lead to a discussion of the five dimensions of evangelization vis-à-vis the Holy Spirit.
