n order to stimulate student research in LST and to share students’ research output with the wider local theological community in the Philippines and with other theological centers around the world, Loyola School of Theology is establishing a Student and Alumni Academic Journal with the revival of “Loyola Papers”.
“Loyola Papers” was published in LST from 1971 to 1986 as “a series of occasional papers and informative studies on contemporary issues in Christian doctrine and life …” (from the front matter). It included articles written by professors, some student articles, and documentation of ecclesial events. Loyola Papers No. 14 (1986) published the papers presented by then San Jose seminarians Victor Nicdao, Vicente Tugadi, Arnold Crisostomo and Florencio Salvador in a symposium, “Priesthood and the Presbyter”.
Loyola Papers eventually ceased publication with the launching of “Landas” in 1987 as LST’s new journal. Incidentally, Landas Vol. 1, No. 1 carried an article by Antonio B. Lambino SJ entitled, “Inculturation in Asia: Going Beyond First Gear”.
This relaunch of Loyola Papers will provide a strong support to the overall thrust of LST’s Asian Theological Program. It will be an effective platform for students as well as alumni – as contributors and/or as readers – to theologically reflect on issues and concerns that arise from their Filipino, Asian, African, Latin American, et. al contexts. Loyola Papers will gladly publish student papers that promote creative dialogue between the Christian faith and students’ local cultures. Other papers, even if not inculturated in approach and content, may also be published.
Author’s Guidelines:
1. Authors should ascertain that the work is free from any form of plagiarism. “When a person fails to give credit to a source, thereby giving the impression that a borrowed idea or way of saying things is one’s own, he/she commits plagiarism. Specifically, it can take the following forms: (a) Verbatim repetition of someone else’s words without acknowledgement; (b) presentation of someone else’s ideas without acknowledgement; (c) paraphrasing, translating, or summarizing someone else’s ideas without acknowledgement; (d) improper acknowledgement of sources, as with incomplete/imprecise documentation; (e) having one’s work done by someone else or having one’s work substantially revised by someone else” (Ateneo de Manila Loyola Schools Graduate Student Handbook, 2019 Edition, p. 152).
2. Aside from papers in the field of systematic, biblical, moral and pastoral theology, canon law and church history, articles on religious education, pastoral psychology and counseling, spirituality and retreat-giving, and philosophy may be submitted.
3. Loyola Papers follows the prescriptions of Kate L. Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, 8th edition. American spelling is used. A manuscript should be formatted with 1” side margins and 1” top and bottom margins, with no right justification. Pages should be numbered. Footnotes, not endnotes, should be used. Gender-inclusive language for humanity and deity is to be observed. Non-English words are to be printed in italics.
4. Manuscripts will be reviewed for approval by the Editor and a consultant invited by him/her from the Loyola Papers Editorial Board who is from a field relevant to the research work. The Editor reserves the right to make changes to manuscripts if they are needed to keep the style of the Journal.
5. Proposed articles should use the MS Word format, between 4,500 (9 pages single spaced) and 10,000 words (20 pages single spaced) and must be submitted with an abstract of 300 words and 8 keywords.
6. Manuscripts should be submitted by email to research@lst.edu.
7. Deadline for submission for the Vol. 1, Issue 1 (2020) is on 30 November 2019.
