Abstract:
This study provides an in-depth exploration of human identity and body, specifically focusing on the Gospel of John, and its implications for comprehending and combating the dehumanization of the human body in contemporary society. In a culture where individuals are viewed as mere biological or economic entities, the Gospel of John presents a profound theological response, offering a vision of human identity and body deeply rooted in the Incarnation and divine relationship. Through an exegesis of some key passages, this study describes John’s vision of human identity and body, providing a compelling framework for addressing different issues in which the human body is devalued and exploited in the contemporary world. The study seeks to demonstrate that the understanding of human identity and body displayed in John’s Gospel can inspire a reevaluation of the dignity of the human person in today’s context.
