Canon Law Course on Marriage for Matrimonial Tribunal Staff and Marriage Counselors

Jun 2, 2023

In support of the formation and training needs of matrimonial tribunal staff in the Philippines, LST is offering its canon law course on marriage and matrimonial processes for either in-person or online attendance via Zoom to the tribunal staff, pre-judicial counsellors, and marriage counsellors.

The three-unit course, TMP 241.06 Canon Law III: Marriage, will be taught by Fr. Jerome Rosalinda, JCD, Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Novaliches, who also teaches at the Ecclesiastical Faculties of the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. Fr. Jigs obtained his JCD degree from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome.

The course is offered every First Semester of the Academic Year. The semester begins on August 10, 2023 and ends on December 10, 2023. Class schedule is on Tuesdays, 9:00 am to 11:50 am.

Course description: This course in canon law continues the canonical-pastoral dimensions of Church life, especially ecclesial legislation regarding Marriage including preparation, celebration, pastoral care, and the canonical processes for the separation of spouses and convalidation (Book IV on Marriage and Book VII on Matrimonial Processes). Apart from matrimonial processes, the course also includes the study of Book V on Temporal Goods and Book VI Sanctions in the Church.

Interested tribunal staff and parish marriage counselors may enroll as auditors without having the need to fulfill academic requirements and obtain a mark.

The cost for enrollment is approximately PhP 9,000. Those who might be deterred from enrolling in the course due to financial constraints may avail of a 100 percent scholarship grant. As a condition for the scholarship, we will only require faithful attendance in all classes in order not to waste precious scholarship resources.

Each interested enrollee is requested to email admin@lst.edu for application instructions. Enrollees are also requested to submit an endorsement letter of their Judicial Vicar. Acceptance letters and enrollment instructions will be sent to each applicant by email.
