On 10 December 2024, LST President Fr. Enrico Eusebio SJ and Prof. Dr. Bénédicte Lemmelijn, Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU-Leuven), signed a Memorandum of Agreement at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. This historic partnership expresses both institutions’ commitment to joint educational programs and research initiatives.
The signing took place during the International Congress on the Future of Theology, organized by the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See, and attended by the two officials.
The International Congress brought together over 500 Rectors, Presidents, Deans, and Theologians from Pontifical Universities and Ecclesiastical Theological Faculties worldwide, making it one of the largest assemblies of Catholic theologians in recent years. The participants met Pope Francis at the Vatican on the first day of the Congress on December 9, 2024.
As part of the agreement, LST and the Faculty of Theology of KU Leuven will promote:
a. faculty and researcher exchanges,
b. student exchanges for ecclesiastical degree programs,
c. sharing of academic resources and information,
d. collaborative research, joint symposia, and guest lectures.
With this partnership with a key European theological institution, LST endeavors to continually foster global collaboration in advancing the Church’s mission of theological education.
