Abstract:
Based on Pope Francis’ document Amoris Laetitia, the study intends to describe the reality of families and couples in an irregular union in the Diocese of Pathein in Myanmar and emphasize the Church’s important teachings on irregular relationships. A survey of informal interviews, insights, and reflections by theologians and members of the Church hierarchy, particularly the Holy Father’s document, Amoris Laetitia, was primarily conducted to explore the challenges in the Diocese. Family situations in Myanmar, Amoris Laetitia and sacramental marriage, and pastoral programs for the care of couples in an irregular union in the Diocese of Pathein are the three main topics of this research. This research aims to build a pastoral discernment approach based on magisterial teaching, particularly on the Holy Father’s document, Amoris Laetitia, a formation of conscience, and pastoral accompaniment, as well as providing pastoral programs and procedures for dealing with couples in an irregular union in the Diocese.
