Abstract:
In the midst of the current contentious atmosphere within Philippine prison camps, the potential of prison facilities to contextualize Pope Francis’s call for missionary discipleship becomes evident. Recognizing a prison facility as a community of people and believers underscores the necessity of prioritizing a context-based and transformative formation program to imbue the prison community with Christian values.
This dissertation delves into the catechetical program provided for the person deprived of liberty (PDL) volunteers at the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP). Through the utilization of the kerygmatic mystagogical-synodality framework and themes of accompaniment, inclusivity, and dialogue (AID) from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, the study proposes adult catechetical modules tailored specifically for PDL volunteers within the national penitentiary.
The objective of this research is to facilitate a holistic and transformative encounter with Christ through adult catechesis for PDLs in the NBP. By integrating contextualized content, Pope Francis’ teachings, and a kerygmatic-mystagogical-synodality framework, the adult catechetical modules aim to inspire conversion, deepen spiritual growth, and empower PDLs to live out their faith authentically and meaningfully, including becoming missionary disciples within the prison setting.
